Dr. Joseph Ayitio is a Senior Urban Planner and Managing Partner of PSS Urbania Consult Ltd. He is a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) and the Ghana Institute of Planners (GIP). Between 2013 and 2020, Dr. Ayitio served in national and global roles principally as Urban Planning Specialist where he played significant roles to accomplish several key initiatives including developing the Liberian National Housing Policy and Slum upgrading Strategy and action, developing Ghana’s National Housing Policy and Strategy, reviewing the UN-Habitat training pack and Quick guide for policy makers on Housing the Poor in African Cities. Earlier in his planning career, Dr. Joseph Ayitio worked for GIZ and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), Ghana. He worked for the Ghana Airport Company Limited as an Urban Planning Specialist and has been consulting for the Ministry of Roads and Highways (MRH); and the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA). Dr. Joseph Ayitio earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He holds a Master’s degree in International Planning and Sustainable Urban Management from the University of Reading, UK, where he earned his PhD in Urban Planning. He is active in the enterprise of journal reviews for the ‘Journal of Land Use Policy’ and the ‘Planning Theory’ journal. Dr. Ayitio’s research specialism includes Land Value Capture and Land-Based Financing, Infrastructure Finance and Public Finance, Land Use and Housing in the global south, Urban Land Governance, Political Economy and Urbanization processes.
